Frequently Asked Questions

Is RodX free to use?

Yes! RodX is completely free. If RodX proves useful in your work, you may choose to contribute with a voluntary donation.

Will RodX always be free?

RodX is currently free to use as part of our open beta. Everyone is welcome to test, explore, and share feedback. In the future, we plan to introduce optional paid features, but the core analysis tools will remain free to access.

What types of calculations can I perform in the program?

RodX supports structural analysis of beams, frames, and trusses using the Finite Element Method. Currently, supported element types are beam (excluding shear deformations) and truss.

Is there an option to import models from other programs?

Yes. You can import from DXF and JSON files (RodX's native structure).

Will there be adaptation for tablets or phones?

RodX was originally designed as a quick, on-the-go analysis tool, and using it on a tablet certainly feels natural. However, most structural analysis is typically performed on a computer, according to user surveys. We'll consider adding a dedicated mobile/tablet experience if there is clear demand for it.

Can I perform detailed calculations?

Although the program was designed for quick analysis, it can also be used for detailed calculations within its current capabilities. We aim to combine speed with full calculation depth in future updates.

What are your product development plans?

We have an extensive roadmap of features planned. All additions will be aligned with user feedback. Check our "Upcoming Upgrades" section for details. For feedback, please use email info@rodxcalc.com

About

My name is Antonio, and I am a structural and geotechnical engineer with over 15 years of experience in bridge design, transport infrastructure, foundations, and complex structural analysis. Throughout my career, I have used a wide range of FEA tools and learned firsthand how powerful — and at the same time, how cumbersome — structural analysis software can be.

RodX was created to solve this problem: to provide fast, intuitive, and reliable 2D FEA that fits naturally into the way engineers think and work.

At the core of the platform is the OpenSees computational engine, an industry-proven framework widely used in research and advanced structural engineering. By combining a modern user interface with the robustness of OpenSees, RodX aims to make everyday analysis both efficient and enjoyable — without sacrificing precision.

Every feature in RodX is shaped by real engineering practice. The platform is designed to support the engineer's judgment, streamline routine work, and provide clear, accurate results — while keeping the final engineering decisions exactly where they belong: in the hands of the qualified professional using the tool.
